At RJMetrics, our mission is to inspire and empower data-driven people. We get especially excited about the “people” part. Yes, there are exciting things happening in data software today, but real change is about people—how they think, how they work, and how they make decisions.
In the 1700s, James Lind conducted the first clinical trial. In the 1800s, Florence Nightingale used data to make the case for more sanitary hospitals. Neither of them had sophisticated data technologies. But they knew that using data would result in a better outcome, and so they did the hard work required. Better decisions always start with people.
Today, it’s easier than ever for people to use data, but it’s still not as easy (and never will be) as easy as relying on opinions, guesswork, or assumptions. Using data gets better results, but it’s undeniably hard work.
In spite of the innate challenges of using data, today’s fastest growing online businesses are all taking on the challenge of building teams that know how to use data to get better outcomes. On April 9th we gathered some of these companies together for our first-ever customer event, Data Point Live.
Data Point Live was designed to be a gathering place for data nerds to learn from and share information with each other. Some of this happened onstage, and lots of it happened in informal discussions about what is and isn’t working for their teams. Because while RJMetrics makes it easier to solve data platforms, it’s always the people who turn data into action.
