It was within days of my interview with RJMetrics that the RJMetrics Mission Statement post went live on the blog. I already knew I wanted to work here, but the mission statement had me over the moon. I sent the link to friends accompanied with notes like: “This is the company I just interviewed with!!!! Don’t they sound incredible?!! I have to get this job!”

The mission statement “to inspire and empower data driven people” resonated deeply with me, as it does with many of us here at RJMetrics. We’re a company that believes data-driven decisions get better results and that the world would be a better place if more decisions were made based on empirical evidence and research rather than guesswork and assumptions. It’s a belief that has formed the foundation of our new blog.

Meet The Data Point

The Data Point is a blog for data nerds. Throughout the process of building the blog we’ve done some work clarifying the kinds of things we want to talk about, and the things we’re best suited to talk about. Here’s where we ended up:

1. We want to tell stories with data.

Our posts on Pinterest, Meetup, and figuring out why people thought our logo looked like underpants were some of our biggest ever. We love exploring the world through data and we’re going to be writing even more of this kind of content in the future. You can sign up to receive these pieces by subscribing to the Data Journalism section.

2. We want to inspire people to become data heroes.

Earlier this year we wrote Data’s Untold Story. This ebook explores the lives of people like Galileo and Florence Nightingale, to better understand the role of data in human progress. These individuals overcame social pressures, lack of tools, and the innate flaws of the human brain to accomplish incredible things with data. We’re going to continue writing about interesting people and the wonderful world of data. You can sign up to receive these pieces by subscribing to our Thinking in Data section.

3. We want to empower people to grow their businesses with data.

Finally, we want to help people get smarter about how they are using data in their day-to-day work. Our blog has traditionally focused on offering data-driven advice to ecommerce companies. Our new blog will expand this, offering tailored advice for mobile app and SaaS companies. We’re going to be bringing you structured guidance on how to grow your business with data. If you’re interested in this type of content you sign up here.

4. We want to talk about weird stuff we like.

From hackathons to engineering nerdery, from company news to gonginators, sometimes we just want to talk about stuff we like. So we gave ourselves a little space for that too. If you want to get to know a bit more about who we are, what we’re up to, and when we’re hiring, be sure to sign up for our About Us section.

From the blog posts we write to the software we build, our mission is to inspire and empower data driven people. The Data Point represents the next generation of our content and we’re excited to share it with the world.
